Sequoias depend on occasional fires to clear
out the undergrowth, but sometimes a
sequoia succumbs to the fire, such as this
poor tree, burned from the inside out.
One enormous sequoia burned out and fell,
forming a huge “tunnel” that Indians used
for shelter. Today you can walk through its
entire length. This view is from just inside
its base, looking out towards the forest.
